Trump to Visit Beijing for Xi Meeting Amid Middle East Tensions

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump is set to visit Beijing this week for talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, as Washington navigates heightened geopolitical pressures linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict and a fragile regional ceasefire.

The three-day trip was originally planned for late March but was postponed following escalating tensions after joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran and subsequent Iranian retaliatory attacks, which contributed to a broader regional confrontation before a tentative ceasefire was established.

According to reports, the visit will be the first by a US president to China since Trump’s earlier term in 2017.

Analysts note that the prolonged crisis involving Iran has required significant attention from Washington, a development that some observers say has indirectly benefited Beijing by shifting US focus away from Asia-Pacific dynamics.

Experts expect the talks to prioritize economic stability and risk management rather than major diplomatic breakthroughs, with both sides likely aiming to avoid further escalation in already strained relations.

Jonathan A. Czin, a former CIA analyst and researcher at the Brookings Institution, said the meeting is unlikely to produce significant agreements and will instead center on maintaining temporary economic understandings.

Speaking to reporters, Czin said the US delegation is expected to push for Chinese commitments to increase imports of American agricultural products such as soybeans and commercial aircraft from Boeing, even as tensions persist over restrictions on advanced semiconductor exports.
