Baykar Chief Tells Belgian Delegation Drones Serve as Major Deterrent

(MENAFN) Selçuk Bayraktar, chairman of Turkish defense company Baykar, told Belgium’s Queen Mathilde that large-scale drone production can act as a powerful deterrent against potential attacks, stating that sufficient production capacity can discourage aggression.

The remarks were made during a briefing at Baykar’s Özdemir Bayraktar National Technology Center in Istanbul, where the queen and her delegation visited the company as part of a broader Belgian economic mission.

Bayraktar presented an overview of Baykar’s unmanned aerial systems and loitering munition platforms, outlining their development and operational capabilities.

“I hope you never have to use them,” he said during the visit. “Because drones are in a sense a deterrent — in fact, one of the greatest deterrents. If you produce enough of them, no one can attack you. That's what we believe.”

Queen Mathilde is currently in Türkiye on a three-day visit that began May 10, accompanied by business representatives and officials. The program includes meetings with senior Turkish leadership as well as participation in economic and trade-focused events aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation, including in defense and industry sectors.
