Macron Unveils Major Investment Plan for Africa

(MENAFN) French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday unveiled a major investment plan worth €23 billion ($27 billion) aimed at boosting economic development across Africa, with a significant share coming from France, according to broadcaster.

Macron said that €14 billion ($16 billion) of the total package would come directly from French public and private sources as he closed the Africa Forward business forum in Nairobi, Kenya.

According to reports citing the Élysée Palace, the French contribution includes both private sector participation and development projects led by French aid agencies and institutions.

The remaining €9 billion ($10.5 billion) is expected to come from African investors, forming a combined cross-continental investment effort.

“These investments will create more than 250,000 direct jobs in France and Africa,” Macron further said.

He described the initiative as part of a broader shift in France’s engagement with Africa, emphasizing a more collaborative economic relationship.

“Many solutions are made in the United States or in China,” Macron said, adding: “I believe we are engaged in a common struggle (…) which consists of building our strategic autonomy for Europe and Africa. And if we build it together, we will be much stronger.”
