US army says dozens of ships rerouted amid Iran naval blockade
(MENAFN) The US military announced Monday that dozens of commercial vessels traveling to and from Iranian ports were redirected as part of an ongoing American naval blockade aimed at restricting Iran’s maritime activity.
In a statement shared online, US Central Command said: "USS Delbert D. Black (DDG 119) monitors regional waters as it transits the Arabian Sea during enforcement of the U.S. blockade against Iran."
The command further stated: "CENTCOM forces have redirected 62 commercial ships and disabled 4 to ensure compliance."
The developments come amid heightened instability in the region following military operations carried out by the US and Israel against Iran. Tehran later responded with attacks targeting Israel and US-linked allies in the Gulf region, while the Strait of Hormuz was also shut down.
A ceasefire brokered through Pakistani mediation came into force on April 8, but talks held afterward in Islamabad did not lead to a lasting settlement. US President Donald Trump later declared that the truce would continue, though no specific timeframe was announced.
Reports indicate that Washington has continued enforcing the naval blockade on Iranian-linked maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz since April 13.
