Trump Announces Resignation of FDA Chief Makary
Trump broke the news via his Truth Social platform, offering a warm farewell to the departing commissioner. "I want to thank Dr. Marty Makary for having done a great job at the FDA," Trump said in a post on Truth Social. "So much was accomplished under his leadership. He was a hard worker, who was respected by all, and will go on to have an outstanding career in Medicine."
The president moved swiftly to name a successor. "Kyle Diamantas, a very talented person, will be put in the Acting position," Trump added.
Diamantas, a veteran of the agency, currently serves as the FDA's deputy commissioner for food. In that capacity, he oversees the agency's Human Foods Program, directing its nutrition and food safety operations nationwide.
Makary's exit follows weeks of mounting pressure, amid reported friction between senior White House and health officials and growing scrutiny surrounding a series of FDA regulatory decisions.
No timeline has been given for a permanent appointment.
