Five Dead as Russia Unleashes 666 Drones, Missiles on Ukraine
Ukraine's General Staff announced via Telegram that its air force logged 666 drones and missiles in total, successfully intercepting 610 of them. The strikes hammered critical infrastructure across the Dnipro, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Odesa, and Kyiv regions, the General Staff confirmed.
Ukraine's Foreign Ministry reported the civilian toll, noting attacks deliberately targeted non-military infrastructure. Dnipro bore the brunt of the assault.
"Dnipro was the main target. A residential building was partially destroyed, with people likely still under the rubble," the ministry posted on X.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy offered his condolences to the "families and loved ones" of the victims before issuing a stark assessment of Moscow's strategy.
"Russia's tactics remain unchanged — attack drones, cruise missiles, and a significant number of ballistic missiles. Most targets are civilian infrastructure in cities," Zelenskyy wrote on X, confirming damage to residential buildings, energy facilities, and businesses.
"Each such strike must remind our partners that the situation requires immediate and decisive action," he urged.
Zelenskyy further revealed that Kyiv is actively engaged with the EU on a sweeping 21st sanctions package, pressing allied governments to "significantly limit" Moscow's operational capacity.
Russia's Defense Ministry, meanwhile, offered a counter-narrative on Telegram, claiming its air defense systems had tracked and destroyed 127 Ukrainian drones across a wide arc of Russian territory — including the Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Oryol, Smolensk, Rostov, Volgograd, Astrakhan, Sverdlovsk, and Chelyabinsk regions, along with Tatarstan, Crimea, and airspace above the Black and Azov seas.
