Pakistani PM, Syrian Leader Hold Phone Talks on Middle East Crisis
Sharif said the two leaders addressed "the dangerous regional escalation following recent unfortunate developments in the Middle East," according to a statement published on X.
Both sides emphasized the critical importance of "restraint, de-escalation, and dialogue to preserve peace and stability," Sharif added.
The diplomatic exchange comes in the wake of joint US-Israeli strikes that killed several senior Iranian officials — among them Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran has since launched a wave of retaliatory drone and missile attacks against US-linked targets across Gulf states, triggering a deadly spiral of violence.
The human cost on both sides continues to mount. Four US service members have been killed and 18 others wounded in the Iranian counterstrikes. On the Iranian side, the Iranian Red Crescent reported that the cumulative death toll from US and Israeli airstrikes — carried out since Saturday — has surged to 555.
