Russia Says It Shot Down Over One Hundred Ukrainian Drones Overnight

(MENAFN) Russian military officials reported Thursday that air defense forces neutralized 130 Ukrainian unmanned aircraft during coordinated overnight strikes spanning multiple regions, marking a significant claimed engagement in the ongoing conflict.

The Defense Ministry stated that Ukrainian operations commenced late Wednesday and extended into early Thursday, targeting both border-adjacent territories and population centers far inland across Russian airspace.

Moscow reported heaviest concentrations in its western frontier regions, where air defenses downed 32 drones across Kursk and Belgorod combined. An additional 20 unmanned systems were intercepted above Voronezh, the ministry disclosed.

The remaining intercepted aircraft were distributed across additional regions: 17 over the Black Sea, seven above Crimea, six across Oryol, five in Krasnodar, four over Tambov, three in Rostov, two above Bryansk, and singular engagements reported over Tula and the Moscow region.

Kyiv offered no immediate response to the allegations. Corroborating Russian claims remains problematic amid active warfare, as independent observers lack access to verification mechanisms necessary for confirmed casualty assessments.

The claimed interception rate underscores escalating drone warfare intensity along the Russia-Ukraine front, though both sides routinely contest casualty figures released by opposing militaries.
