Tensions Escalate on Cambodia, Thailand Border
"Thai soldiers opened fire on civilians in Prey Chan village, Ou Beychoan commune, Ou Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, injuring five civilians, according to preliminary information from local authorities," he stated in a message sent to journalists via Telegram.
The shooting occurred just two days after Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul called for a suspension of the joint peace declaration.
This decision followed a landmine explosion near the Preah Vihear temple located along the border, which wounded two Thai soldiers.
Thailand has accused Cambodia of placing new landmines in the area. Cambodia, however, refuted the claims, asserting that the explosives were remnants from nearly thirty years of civil conflict within the country.
