US Deploys Large Military Presence Near Venezuela

(MENAFN) The United States is sending a substantial military force to an area near Venezuela, with 10,000 soldiers and 6,000 sailors being deployed, according to a media outlet.

This deployment could indicate that the US is planning to increase its regional military activities.

The US has consistently accused Venezuela of supporting “narcoterrorists” and has imposed stringent sanctions on the country.

Additionally, the US military has carried out attacks on several vessels since September, claiming they were linked to drug trafficking operations.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has rejected these accusations, accusing Washington of “fabricating a new war” while the US continues to build up its military presence.

As reported by the media outlet, eight US Navy warships, a special operations vessel, and a nuclear-powered attack submarine are already stationed in the Caribbean.

The USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier, expected to arrive next week, will bring an additional three military vessels and more than 4,000 military personnel.

Furthermore, F-35 fighter jets have been deployed to a US base in Puerto Rico, with satellite imagery supporting this claim.

The arrival of the carrier group raises the possibility that the US's objectives may go beyond counter-narcotics efforts. Ryan Berg, director of the Americas Program at the Center for Strategic & International Studies, told the media outlet that US President Donald Trump has about a month to make “a major decision” before the carrier group would need to be redeployed.
